Non-Easter-Easter

I got it. Strep. Just when I thought I could outsmart it, I was wrong.

Two nights ago, my throat felt a little lumpish. Like a knifey goose egg was lodged in the back of my throat. The husband insisted that we go to get a rapid strep test, because he'd tested positive after four days of agony on Wednesday night. I'm hoping the kids don't get it now.

Days of productivity have ground to a slow halt. I did *nothing* for Easter. The smallest person was nearly broken hearted until we reminded him that the Easter Bunny often doesn't come until lunch time. The Easter Bunny isn't as organized as Santa, you know. But his little plea of "The Easter Bunny forgot about me!" was so sad! (The Easter Bunny has dropped off gifts now, so I don't think I will have to put any money into the therapy fund today.)

The house is a wreck. The floors need mopping. The walls need scrubbing, thanks to the last few days of monsoon like weather - perfect recipe for mud soup in the backyard, just add a golden retriever and you get muddy spatters all over the house. There are several baskets of clean laundry waiting to be sorted and claimed (but hey! at least it's clean laundry!) and the beds need changing... At least the ever present existence of chores and housework lends some consistency to the day... You can always count on laundry and dishes, I suppose.

At this point, I feel well enough to be disappointed in my lack of productivity, but still sick enough to only want to be in bed.

Bah.

I suppose I'm not missing out on anything that I should be doing, just things I want to be doing. Like rearranging my space at the shop, and getting more stock ready to go out. I still haven't found my pink camera. Where did it disappear to, between here and the beach house? I'm perplexed.

I need toast.

And then a nap.

Natural medical / science theme...

Alyson of Postal Press (a sweet letterpress shop) did a guest post on 100 Layer Cake. O. I want to live in this post!! Seriously. The whole thing sent me on an Alice in Wonderland down the holes of the innerwebs quest, link by link. Some very cool images (please look at the whole post on 100 Layer Cake for links) and resources... A treasure trove in ONE POST!

All of it is gorgeous. Thanks to Alyson for sharing all of the beautiful images, which are all inspiration for her upcoming wedding. I'm sure it's going to be just gorgeous...

Special Delivery!

It's here! It's here! My delightful little skull from Ann in the Dalles! Stacy made a good guess, thinking it might be an opossum skull. It's perfectly intact, with both the upper and lower jaws connected, including some vertebrae and what looks like tiny bits of remaining spinal cord in the base of the skull...

What a way to start the weekend! Until it gets bleached out a little I'm not sure y'all would appreciate the pictures... I'll try to get some good (not gruesome) pictures of the teeth, because they're really cool.

But there was a bonus tooth as well! I think it might be another cattle tooth... Wahooooo! I'm so happy! Thanks, Ann!!

Little German Head Dolly...

I made this tonight for my studio using some old postcards I'd done in 2009, some photos of doll parts, and some vintage glitter letters... I love her.

I win!

Today began with an email in my inbox announcing that I was the lucky recipient of one "small animal skull" and a bonus TOOTH! Wahooooo! I'll post pictures when it arrives from the Dalles... But until then, know that every once in a while Craigslist is totally awesome. Really? I send an email and then someone writes back saying that they're going to mail it out for me? And I wasn't even the only responder, lest ye think that "well, duh! she's the only one who wanted the damn thing!" Cause I *wasn't* the only one. I even won out over a science teacher. (I know, maybe I should have let the science teacher have it. But y'all know how I love me some skulls.)

Further more, in this afternoon's developments, a woman named Kate wrote back and said that the canning jars I emailed about yesterday were ready for pick up.

There were a couple dozen jars on her porch when I got there, apparently no one else had come yet to pick them up. And again, you might say, "Ummmmm yeah? Cause who the eff wants nasty ol' jars?" But these are a combination of old pharmacy type jars, wire close glass lidded Ball & Kerr jars, and some nice big wide mouth canning jars. People are always on the look out for these suckers. And now, I have a stash!

They're in the washer as I type... I was so excited. Now I have plenty (despite the gorgeous french-ish ones that my dear, sweet MIL gave me recently, and those were filled the same day I brought them home with ribbons & trinkets) for little things like safety pins, and tiny buttons... I might even share some...  I'm so excited I might go see if the dishwasher is done...

I know. I'm a nerd.

Magical Superpowers I wish I had...

Guitar playing like a rock star. Not even like David Gilmour, but maybe enough that I could be like, "Oh look! a campfire. let's strum, shall we?"
Hitting high notes and yodeling (lower register is fine, but MAN! Those high notes get me. Plus, who doesn't want to yodel? Isn't that how you call mountain goats?)
The ability to condense a meal into a pill so I spent less time eating and had more time for crafting
race car driving skills. Like super mad skills, in the rain, around corners... Not in my regular car on the street, but like on a race track... I want to be a race car driver. alas, my lack of depth perception sadly misinforms my abilities. which is to say, unless it is broad daylight and/or it is not raining and/or I know exactly where I'm going, I don't get behind the wheel.
I wish that html and css coding were like English to me...
I wish that I could eat as much cheese as I wanted without eventually thinking about rennet and how much fat cheese has in it.
I would like to be able to start and stop my dreams like my mother can. She can wake up and then go back to bed and think about the dream she wanted to continue, and then continue it when she falls back asleep.
Speaking of dreams, the portion of my dreams where I dream in German (I don't speak German), write poems (I always forget them) and solve tremendously difficult math problems, I wish those were true for my waking life as well.

I'm sure there are more, but that's what I have so far.

*whew* I sure am glad Blogger autosaves these drafts, cause Firefox just shut down and I thought this thing was lost forevah!
